I have used 3mm and 6mm in laminated foam to produce stronger structure. Foam Carpet spray glue is excellent for general large area lamination but does not impart much added strength as its flexible. But epoxy laminating resin does. Thinly applied it can produce a stiffness that can make a large difference. If you really want to create a very stiff laminate - then finishing tissue (its ultra thin light glassfibre cloth) laid into the epoxy and then second sheet ... finally while curing - have board and weights on top.
