Read this little article by AMA on the issue of remote ID. If it has to happen, I like the idea of an app based or similar remote identification, one that does not require the user to have potentially expensive and heavy transponders in the model. I also like his statement on a more "risk-based" approach. Obviously not all aircraft pose the same level of risk as others, regardless of range flown at, but if the point of remote ID is to identify pilots in the case of irresponsible flying, is it really necessary to have remote ID on LOS planes when the operator is standing less that 400ft away? Thoughts?
