MiG-29 V2

“One of the best all around planes”
The MiG-29 really does fit my flying preferences really well. It is fast and very smooth, but slow flies extremely well. The KF4 really makes this plane a dream to fly in all conditions. Today it was pretty windy and it was steady as heck. With the linked 4x4 I've got throws at 50 % on elevons and ailerons but look at the maneuverability! It is also very forgiving with CG.
Definitely one of the best all around planes. Unfortunately it does not fly off water though...

"Oh my gosh that's a fun plane"
Last weekend I was supposed to get together with a couple of friends for a day of flying but stuff cropped up and I couldn't go. I sent the MiG-29 V2 off with one of them because one of the guys is from an hour and a half away and he hadn't had a chance to see it yet. The reports back? "Oh my gosh that's a fun plane". That's word for word. I'm pretty sure there will be a couple more Mig-29 V2's in the world very soon

“A very surprising plane”
This is a very surprising plane. Quick, very maneuverable just on elevons and a lot more stable than I thought it would be. My throws were way too much but I was never in any danger of taking a dirtnap.
If you are interested in my full impressions you can visit my blog.

(Added note from Dave Powers: Grey has done extensive work on the MiG-29 and I would consider him an authority on this plane. His blog is worth a visit as well as his post in the Forum here.)

“Always coming with me”
Yeah it does do everything well. Smooth really is the word. I'm flying mine more and more and it is always coming with me now. I have used 1300's, 1600's, 1800's and 2200's on this and the plane fly's great on all of them. Haven't even needed to move the battery much in any of the sizes. Great plane!

“Could have a few more surprises!”
I love the way this plane moves. Too heavy a motor will only hurt performance. BUT- I could be wrong! I thought that I would max out the performance on a 4s and it took everything I threw at it and more! So, if you want pure speed, who knows, it could have a few more surprises! I can say that I was impressed by the heads up motor on dan's plane.

“It got going so fast, both elevators snapped off”
I finally managed to destroy this plane. I have been trying this plane, going crazy with it the last few weeks, tail heavy flights, 4 cells, the works. It took it all. But, when I set it up for normal flying, it died.
What happened was that I flew it high up. I was going to get it really high and see if I could float it down. My dad dared me to fly as high as I could, so I flew till I almost couldn't see it. Then I started my descent. It got going so fast, both elevators snapped off. WOW. It started tumbling, and I barely managed to land it on its belly in the grass (thank god for 4x4 elevons). But the whole plane was still pretty much destroyed.
It was ok though, I got all my electronics off it, none of them were damaged.
Lessons learned? Probably none. I will probably still fly my foamies like a maniac.
But that is ok, because it is fun.
Thanks RCP for a great, great plane while it lasted.

“The MiG-29 will high alpha really well”
My best example is the difference between my MiG-29 V1 and my F-15 I built recently. They are literally within about 1mm of each other in size, weight within an ounce or 2 of each other, and have the exact same power system. They are both elevon only and controlled the same way but the F-15's wings come back a lot farther towards the back of the plane. It is not a delta really but darn close.
The MiG-29 will high alpha really well. The space between the wings and the back of the plane I think allow the pressure to be released from under the wings quicker allowing it to be nose up and wind pass almost horizontally when in high alpha and not cause too much wobble. Sure it will do it at very slow speed but it is very controllable. And the air reaching the elevons is clean and not swirling from the wings my F-15 will not high alpha very well at all. It will either stall hard or won't nose up without a lot of throttle and then it just climbs or it will start a flat spin of sorts There is no release of the air pressure from under the wings and when it does come out near the elevons it is not clean air..but it is swirling and disrupted and will not stabilize the plane very well. Within 2 flights i gave up on high alpha with it only if the wind speed is high can you stall it in air but even then the nose angle is shallow.
So while I can't get 100% technical as to the physics of air pressure and it's flow and release.
That is my story about my 2 similar planes !

Cuz tooling around is just not my style of flying. Full stick and full travel control surfaces.

I say just build them both, mikeyrc pylon racer is a very cheap plane to build and it uses the same electronics as rcpowers planes....Just keep building and building, until you memory is full on your Tx, then just get another one and keep building and building....Wow I need to go to RCAA, Remote Control Aircraft Anonymous...
Cuz tooling around is just not my style of flying. Full stick and full travel control surfaces.
