Don't tread on me!

I talked to a guy who owns a professional detailing business about plasti dipping cars. He said that he sees people use plasti dip all the time on bumpers, rims, etc. He said it would be extremely useful to spray the front fender if you go on a really long road trip, so instead of having to clean your car of all the bugs you can just peel it right off. He also said it will do NO damage to the clear coat.

let me get this straight, it's not meant for this, doesn't stay on and it still costs you $600 to do?

I get the novelty, but it does not seem practical.

I guess I am just not that worried about my car that I need it plastic wrapped, my car is utilitarian, I do not use it to pick up chicks..I use it to haul camping gear...and I like nicks and chips in my paint, I like bugs and mud too. My car is over ten years old I would never put plastic on it that doesn't stay on and cost half as much as the car does...

I know there are lots of people who value how their cars look and put a lot of importance on it, I am just not one of them. If this is an alternative to painting a car then I have no use for it, I have never painted a car in my life, never needed too, never wanted too..

Also I hate being in a dirty CAR. I don't mind a dirty truck or jeep.

Also (again) I don't think it is plastic, it is rubber.

I know a guy (in 1978) that painted his Baja Bug with rubberized aircraft paint.
The paint was used on nose domes on C-141s.
If it got scratched, you rub it and the scratch disappears.
