If things would be run by old schooler federation guys we would still be flying 35mhz radios.
Without having to go beyond my local area limits i have seen people despise 2.4Ghz and even trying to ban them back in the day from official competitions .. and the president of the models federation ban 4S lipos in drone racing because he deemed them "too fast dangerous"..i have even withness the guy say that he hated FPV and drones and if he could he would ban them.. and today he is taking money teaching people to fly them and certifying people to be race officials.. and also that same guy ban foamies in his F5J competitions after another guy beated him on one with an EasyGlider

Hat`s off to the Easyglider pilot
No wonder that guy was angry, it`s like being beaten in the Kentucky derby by a Morgan

That was a day to write in the history books here..
Tought F5J really depends on gliding skills.. precision and calculation to be on the ground at a precise time.. the EasyGlider guy did a 1000.. he nailed everything.. but its not required to have a fast or super precise plane if you can make it touch at a very specific spot.. i have read guys in rcgroups claim to have won F5J events with Phoenix 2000 gliders..

The old rule to get max charge into Nixx format cells was at 1/10th C ...

So a 5000mAh pack would be at 500mA rate. But this will take you to 14hrs for full charge (I know the maths looks wrong - but the extra 4hrs is due to resistance building up as charge level increases).
A decent charger should Delta Peak - which means it detects the very slight peak and drop when full charged - automatically stopping full rate charge ... some revert to trickle - some cut off completely. The problem here is that NiMh are not so defined on Delta Peak as the older NiCd and if you charge at too low a rate - it can miss it. So you need a rate high enough to Delta Peak but not so high you overheat the cells. If charge rate makes the cells hot to hold - TOO HIGH a rate ... if they are reasonably WARM then that's ok.

Some people today reckon they charge NiMh at 1A or more - some even claim 1C rate - which would be 5A for that pack - I would never want to thump that hard into NiMh ... NiCd maybe ... but not NiMh.
... please note that I can remember old days of indoor car racing - we would be charging 7.2 NiCd packs in 14 - 15 mins ... but they would only last a season if you were lucky ... we had fans blowing on them to cool ...

If I had to ... I may try 2A ... maybe 3A ...

Low and slow for NiMh, I presume your charger has NiMh setting for when you select battery type?
