Just released in SZ (China). New iPad clones run Android 2.2 / Windows 7 with "decent" hardware equal to iPad, supporting Flash 10.1 and multitasking.

8" Android 2.2 aPad - 1GHz Cortex A8 Processor - 512MB DDR2

10.1" Windows 7 ePad - 1.66GHz Atom N455 - 2GB DDR3 - 32GB SSD

Any reviews, discussion on those? I have laid my money down and waiting for the courier to show up. Been burnt before and not holding my breath, but as an ebook reader and wifi surfer?

Did you get the Android model or the Windows 7?

I would get a Archos 70 over the android one (Resistive screen) but the W7 one does not look too bad.(little expensive though)

In both cases,

- Not enough ram. Would be better with 4-8GB's of DDR3 (The Android one comes with 512Mb of DDR2)
- Resolution is low (800x600 on the Android one and 1024x600?! on the Windows one).
- Camera: Windows one has a crappy 1.3Mp camera and the android one doesn't mention a camera anywhere. My cell phone comes with a 3.0 Mp camera and I was just looking at a Motorola phone (Quench I think) that has a 5.0mp camera on it. If a cell phone can have it, then there's no reason these can't too so either put a decent one on it or leave it off but don't go half-way.

- Storage space: This one's a question of what you need. Ipad has an app called "Air share" which allows you to share HD space on your computer (whatever amount you want so a great use for a 1 TB drive...) and via the air share app, you can access this space from your Ipad anywhere you are that has Wi-Fi access available.

While 32GB's local on the machine is nice, +$100 for 64Gb's isn't bad price-wise either for the windows one so in this case it becomes a question of whether air share has an app for this one. If the answer is yes, then there's no real need for 64GB. Also supports external HD's which is nice.

For the Android one, 4Gb internal supports up to 32GB via SD card. Uh... OK. Nice idea and a great way to keep the price of the item down but there should at least be an option to support more then 32Gb's... No Support for external HD's at all and the only available slot is a MICRO SD card slot... Should have added a full USB plug to support external HD's.

- Screen size. 10.1" vs 8". Well, I like the bigger screens myself so I guess this one boils down to preference.

Would I buy one of these or an Ipad? probably not. Why? because it's too new on the market. Wait a year and these things will be all over the place with most of the bugs worked out of them and far more functionality imo.

Uhh, You do know that android idles on 128Mb or ram right?
Or that the normal user will never use 256Mb?
Or that the iPad has 256Mb?
The Windows machine is just a touchscreen netbook, same screen, same cpu, same ram, same copy of W7 starter (Of which does not come with the Touch screen tools anyway.).
My biggest problem is the trash resistive screen, that is soo 90's Palm.
Btw, Android industry standard is 800x600 for most apps, everything looks wrong else wise unless you double up the resolution(iPhone 3G to 4G, double the res to keep backwards app compatibility)

They said we'd never need more the 32 Kilobytes of ram too but that wasn't the case either. Right now it's new and nothing requires more then 256mb but give it time.

It doesn't matter really because it's not going to beat a customizable $35 laptop complete with touchscreen.

I don't find them crap. I happen to think it's a fantastic technology but it's also in it's infancy right now. I'll be waiting a year possibly more before I get one of these things
