Its going to be "Brown Trousers" day this weekend.

I will be maidening :

Latest FRC Mosquito ...

3rd Vers Vulcan

Mig 15 Profile

Pal of mine will be trying to get his Dancing Wings DR1 (1500mm span monster !) airborne this weekend and I shall be assisting (with video cam of course). Because it will be the Ex Soviet Airbase - gives me chance to maiden the above.

This is the first attempt that led to broken to top wing cabane mount ...

Wish me luck ............... please !!

I don't think so, just make sure the prop is facing forward and the control surfaces are going the right way. 😉 Usually that's where I screw up 😃

Well ... good and bad !! Videos to come ...

My mates DR1 - flew ... had turn problems which he sorted after landing ... he altered thrust line and second flight was SUPERB !!

My Vulcan ? She flew like a dream ... slow .. fast ... what a 'peach' ! Absolutely spot on.

Mig 15 ? Oh Dear !! CCW prop - she torques to left ... CW prop - torques to right. So she needs speed under her to counter the torque .... will try a much smaller prop - see if I can get some speed before she hits ground next time. Small repair to make where split just behind motor plate ... nothing serious.

Mosquito ? Absolutely no idea what went wrong there ... she ran along ground fine took and immediately pitched up ... I was fighting to get her level ... real rollercoaster for about 10 secs ...
If anyone has ever flown AVSC on a Stab ... that's what it was like ... a mode that I have never been able to master.
Both motor mounts pushed back into nacelles. Nose split back to cockpit .... but amazingly rest of model is fine !! Simply re-align motor plates and nose area and she's back in business again.

As I say - videos will be uploaded shortly.

Mosquito had Elevator problem causing her to pitch up violently after take-off ... repairs underway and she will be fine ...

Mig 15 - needs smaller prop to reduce Torque ... sorted...

Vulcan - now this has to be one of my best scratchbuilds .. she flew so sweet ... think this will be with me for quite a while !!

Here's my pal's DR1 ... its the Dancing Wings 1500mm balsa / ply kit from Banggood .... once the errors were sorted - it looked superb in the air ... here's a short video using my Soloshot ..

Was an eventful day anyway. Most any plane always needs some balance work after the first flight.  To get one to fly right the first time out is more caused but accidentally getting it right than all that careful planning.

The battle scars are what gives it personality. 👍
Fly like your mad at it.

Really annoyed about the Mosquito ... its a problem that could have been seen before take-off ... but too late now.

The Mig was always a bit of a gamble ... very light ... lot of power ...

The Vulcan though was a fabulous reward ... the knowledge I gained from the first two prototypes certainly paved the way for #3 to be successful.

My pals DR1 ... I've been helping him and I feel very pleased that he had a great day with what proved to be a majestic beast in the air once thrust line sorted.

Brilliant day.

Note about Mossie : The motors in fact are still aligned and the retracts mount actually stopped them going back ... it looked like they were because the 3D printed spinners broke centres and were shoved back into nacelles ...
Really all I have to do is add some foam to repair strained internal of nacelles and reform the nose ... plus of course print new spinners.

Mossie is 99% ready to go again .... just glad that this crash - I know exactly what caused it ... unlike usual where we speculate ... assume so much ...

Servo was driven to full up and then neutral ...

Like many - we do a control test on the ground - full up .. full down ... full left ... full right etc. All looks good and up we go. This time I should have checked RANGE of stick to servo movement instead of bang full etc. If I had done that - I would have noted the servo drive to full ...

All sorted ... just waiting for PU glue to set and then paint ...
