I have various plans ... one of which being a 3 view which can provide a good base to create a profile version from ....

I do apologise to people if they are looking for proper drawn up plans for any of the models I scratchbuild ... ie Vulcan, Mig15 etc. but I am a sketch to foam guy from simple 3 views. I have never been good at CAD ....

Even the Tab / Slots are added to the shapes I create direct on the foam  .... and often modified when cutting or after cut !

Hawker Hunter - despite it being relatively slow compared to other aircraft around - had a smooth and effective flight envelope that in good hands could deliver the 'goods' ... not only that, but a singularly beautiful aircraft .. before Fighters all seemed to follow a single design route ...
Bit like Porsche - style, performance and unique design.

Interested to know if anyone else has created a Profile or Folded Hunter ?

Was going to do a Hunter a few years back but never got around to it.  Be watching this one with interest 🙂
Whoever said nothing is impossible had obviously never tried slamming a revolving door...

Reckon similar to my Vulcan ... double thickness fuselage to give it strength without CF ... wing to be possibly KF, not for aerdynamics (I'm not a believer in KF ....) but to stiffen along with a single CF spar.

Measured and scaled out - I get :

Span  : 728mm
LOA   : 962mm
Fuz depth / width : 114
Nose to LE root : 286mm
Tail span : 260mm
Fin height : 143mm

Expect about 400gr +/- ....

"despite it being relatively slow compared to other aircraft around"
I would point out that in September 1953 one of the prototypes held the aircraft world speed record at 727 mph!
It may have ended up being comparatively slow but it was 'around' for a long time, into the 1990s even in RAF/RN service as a trainer!

In fact Israelis had good success with it ... they even had Aces with it.

Red / White Hunters were kept right up till ~2000 for Defence Radar checking - I used to see them doing the circular flight paths along south Coast UK ... One actually ditched in the English Channel and was reason they brought forward their phase-out. The aircraft passed my pals office window !! in Fareham Hants - pilot staying long enough to point her out to sea .. I always remember Paul describing the noise and WHOOSH as it creamed past his window in the tower block.

The Hunter was an exceptional aircraft but its lack of speed was its limiting factor in the end.

Holder of Speed record at 727mph ... sold around the world ... an iconic and extremely beautiful aircraft when style was also still in fashion.

It gave birth to the greatest Aerobatic Team in the world, Red Arrows, as the Black Arrows .. it also still today holds the record for 22 aircraft in tight formation doing the loop ! Farnborough Air Show 1958

(at ~8.45 onwards)

Templates are made in 3mm sheet from a 3 view. Then these let me trace out the basic 6mm depron parts. The Fuselage will be similar to my Vulcan - double thickness Depron making a stiff 12mm form.
6mm side strakes to straighten and provide a levelling for that huge wing, also in 6mm.

Span 730mm
LOA 930mm

Plan is to mount prop at rear ... typical 2826 2200kv or similar with a 6x4 or 6x5 ... on 3S ...

Not looking for speed but graceful flight in keeping with the original.

Here are the parts dry fitted for checking ...

OK ... found a scheme I liked ...

[9_39_zps0l5fuuai]

Decided to darken the grey to make more visible with brown ..

[Hunter%20first%20paint%201_zpsspqhvjt5]

[Hunter%20first%20paint%202_zps9rzot9cw]

Its first rough paint and then a second coat sorts ... its Water based Poster paint - so will need a gloss over top to seal it and allow decals to stick.

No rudder - decided to leave it off as its not intended for 3D ... just trying to decide whether to put a Fun Fighter 1940kv 3S / 4S capable motor or the 2826 2200kv I usually fit with 3S ...

Holding it .... I think it would make a brilliant Slope Soarer ..... shame that Latvia has no good slopes !
The Soviets even had to 'build a hill' to create the Bobsleigh run in Sigulda !!

Nearly finished ... just wait paint to dry and then apply underwing decals and fuselage marks .... find a spare Rx and balance her ...

Quite pleased .. had a new 2826 2200kv spare ... so why not ??

Reckon she'll be good for 1800 - 2200 3S Lipo ...

Well she flies !! OK - had a bit of a 'do' to get her airborne and then motor mount sheered ... BUT SHE FLIES !!

Looks good in the air ...

She's all repaired and ready for flight. I have tested with 4S and swapped the 6x4 prop for a 5x5 ... this gives me choice of 3S or 4S as I want ...

4S is too much for the elevators ...

Will prop with a 6x5 and go back to 3S

New nose section scarfed on and PU glue is curing ..

[DSCF0027_zpsljowa9ck]

I cut back to create a joint that overlaps the wing to add some strength ... and also decided to extend the wing sheet to the nose creating a double thick laminated fuselage in vertical and horizontal section ... to carry the weight of that 2250 3S battery ...

The new sections were laminated with epoxy befoare scarfing into main body - the epoxy to provide a stiff glue line to assist with the foam resisting bending moments.

Final joints where gaps will be filled with PU / filler mix to foam up and seal.
