Hey guys, I have been looking for a new airplane, an AJ Slick. 3DHS has my favorite, the 59" red Slick but it is not for sale currently, does anyone know where I can get other Slicks?

Hi Flightman,
It looks like the 59" AJ Slick may not be in stock for a while. Have you considered the 51" AJ Slick at all? I own a 71" AJ Slick powered by a DLE-35RA 35CC Gas engine and it's awesome. The 51" flies quite similar to the bigger slicks, such as the 71". The 59" Slick is more of a precision plane, and doesn't fly 3D as well as the others. Also, Aero-Model has setups that include the motor, battery, speed control, and the servos.

I have considered it, but I want a bigger plane. I see you have the 71" AJ. How do you like it? What is your flying style and how does it handle it?

The 71" AJ Slick is floaty and tracks really well. It's definitely one of my favorite planes to fly. I like to fly all out 3D and precision flight and it does both excellently. Do you have a lot of experience flying 3D planes? If not, an EPP plane such as the 48" EPP Extra or 40" EPP Edge from 3DHS would be a better choice. If you do have some experience flying bigger balsa 3D planes, than the Slicks would be a great choice. Also, what type of flying are you looking to do?

I have years of practice of 3D on the simulator, I had a foamie edge 540 that I got really good with 3D then a battery connection issue led to its death. I do have experience with a larger balsa plane that was not 3D, but rather sporty. I am looking for very precise 3D flight.

It sounds like an AJ Slick is the right choice for you! Just get the biggest you can afford to crash...

I would NOT recommend those planes. They come from unknown Chinese manufacturers and have poor quality control. The one from HK is a copy of the 3DHS 51" AJ Slick. If I were you, I wouldn't recommend any of those planes to someone else. It would be best to stick with the genuine AJ Slick from 3DHS for quality parts and service.

If he can build and fly he will be fine, there is not that much difference as most are made in the exact same factory, you act like 3dhs has engineers on site buiding from scratch, surprise they dont, they get a plane from a factory and do a little testing and say whay they want different and poof they have the version they want. I have a 3dhs 48 edge and 51 slick and some clones, they dont have that much difference in how they fly, none really once balanced and powered up right.
Things that don't work right in this hobby go away very quickly.

check these out and let the fanboi's stick to only what they think they know, they are selling so some one is using them and not everybod around the world is using 3dhs cause shipping is out of this world. 3dhs service is not that great, give them a call, write an email check before you buy, you may find them as easy to get a hold of as banana hobby or hobby king and many people feel that way about them. You asked for options I hope I helped in that way.
Just read a little and spend YOUR money YOUR WAY.
The earth is not flat and more than one company can make a nice model

I know that 3DHS is not the only company that makes good planes, as there are many others such as Great Planes, Pilot, Extreme Flight, etc. I do not mean to go stepping on your toes, but yes, you may save money from buying from those other distributors, but what if the plane comes damaged and the customer service sucks, they won't even answer your phone calls or emails. A few guys at our club along with I have bought a few planes from 3DHS and their customer service has been great. Of course there are some cases of bad support, but that's how it is sometimes. If you are sport flying, you will not much of a difference of performance between the 3DHS planes and the clones. You'd be surprised in the difference of flight characteristics of most of the planes when you fly hardcore 3D, although some of the clones do fly very good 3D.
