i'd do 3.5...the 550 will blow past that number fast and get into bad territory quick

Thanks mate,3.5 it will be,we must avoid bad territory at all costs.I was watching a chap fly a trex 550 last night on youtube,he flew it for 5 mins normal flight and then landed it,i left him a message asking what motor and lipo he is using,am now waiting for a reply.3.5 sound good for my 500s as well. cheers and all the best from the UK

You can get good flight time as long as you are not pushing it 3D style. I set my timer for about 4 minutes on my Trex 500 with a 3000mah battery. Seems to do the trick as the battery is at about 3.8v per cell when I am done. If you are setting 3.5 you will get probably 5 minutes at least.

I'm actually going to build my EXI 500 kit i've had sitting around with a friend. He wants one and he bought all the parts to build it. I've had the kit for so long i'm just donating the kit to him so he can learn. He is a very good 450 pilot already...so he wants to step up to the 500.

In addition I found out I have all the parts to build a new 450...minus the frame and FBL controller. So I just ordered what I wanted last night. Very hard to find kits out there still. Ehirobo still offers the copterx line..so I picked up a 450 pro V5 FBL kit from them. only $70 US for the kit...so that is awesome. And scored a AR7200BX Controller from a guy on helifreak...so I have everything on the way to get one in the air. We'll see how it goes!

Last year i was flying my Gaui 550 with standard gearing and 500 size blades and a MX500 1600 kv motor plus 2 2700 lipo in series ie 22v and i was getting just over 10 mins ! the motor got VERY hot and i decided not to fly with that motor any more.I have learned this last few weeks that it is cheaper to fly a 550 with separate lipo for electronics, the 4000 lipo is £38 quid but the 5000 lipo is over £50 quid plus huge shipping costs,i had to google EXI 500 you say you have a 450 heli,is it running on 6s ? I may have already told you that i have a clone 450 and a Align 450 FBL,the fbl version uses a IKON ubrain and it has autopilot built in,,i flick a switch to turn the autopilot on and the heli turns into a collective pitch CO AX great for teaching folk how to fly and with the TITAN 3500 mah 4s battery on it i was getting around 11 mins,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you gota love the hobby, and i am flying planes, quads.tricopters,Vtails and helis,,,,the only thing that stops us is the weather, right now i have 4 inches of rain water at my back door,oh the joys of the awful unreliable UK weather ha cheers the kits you are buying are a cracking deal,i myself have stopped buying and building,,i have enough

No not running my 450 on 6s. Only the dominators with the reinforced gears can take that. Just running 3s on the 450. EXI is no longer making heli kits. This one has been sitting in my garage for years in a box. Renewed interest in helis has come from my fried who is literally half my age . Time to pass on the building and setup knowledge to a new generation.

Finding 6s for a 450 is proving very difficult for me and i have for the moment given up on that,i commented in an earlier post that i will not be buying any more models, well a few weeks ago a guy puts his align trex 550 [ a beauty ] on FBK selling page for £400 he has now lowered the price to £380 and added 2 5000 lipos in the sale,,,,its a cracking offer as the lipos are £130 plus shipping from hobbyking,,,,i will buy it but then again i wont buy it. decisions decisions ,,,life isnt fair its great to pass on your skills and knowledge to the younger generation, and it stops them playing with their mobile phones ha.

yeah i'm appreciative he wants to learn. We took out his 450 this weekend and i got good video of me chasing it with my quad. On the last flight of the day he lost a tail blade and the belt snapped and it crashed. Thankfully through years of collecting parts i had everything we needed to fix it and it was back flying the next day.

That sounds like good fun and having lots of spares is a bonus,,,,,now for the negative side of things In the last 4 weeks i have crashed 1 plane,1 quad, and 1 helicopter, and in the all these crashes the electronics have failed, the plane aileron servos failed and the plane is a crumbled mess [ binned ] the quad can be fixed and the heli cyclic servo [ hitec ] failed,i also have a trex 500 clone with hitec servo that i was checking before flight today and 2 hitec cyclic servo have failed,so out of 3 trex 500 clones i am now down to 1 and its the only 1 with genuine Align servo all round [ dare i try it ] i am now having to do a frustrating net search for trex 500 servos,no luck so far.

I dont blame you for grabbing that,my new align servos have arrived but the mounting blocks that the servo bolts screw into are missing,,darn, now the search starts for them. The hitec servo blocks are the right size but they aint very strong and they use much smaller bolts so i cannot use them. all good fun.
