Promised my boy we will drop some whirly seeds from a plane this holiday. I am sure I can think up something, but prefer to use a winning design.

This will be on my latest su-30 v4 build.

The seeds weigh very little, and the volume will need to be about 1 cup (250 ml).

The attachment is what I think will be needed ito functionality, but I build with foam!

I've built a couple and all that detail is shown in the "Cargo Planes ... rock" thread starting on post #556.

This was my second version and it worked a little smoother than the first attempt.

Built with some light ply, a short 2-56 rod, some short pieces of music wire and one servo.

Fly like your mad at it.

What a great idea!
I used to play with Sycamore seeds as a kid, even take them back up the tree to fly them again
How about making a couple of big whirlies from foam and a metal nut?
You could put the kids names on and see who`s flew the longest.
Sorry I don`t have any good methods for dropping stuff though

I might try doing this in the nacelles. That way there is no extra lump hanging underneath to make landing complicated, and I could make it removable.

@bogusbandit56 it IS sycamore seeds ( I just googled to see)

My initial thoughts were to use the nacelles but you need to be careful of the prop or you could end up with sliced and diced whirly`s.
A flying shredder
Have you seen this? A cut down pringle`s can would do.

In Britain there are a few more trees that drop helicopter seeds.
May be your children would be interested in this and how to indentify the different trees and their seeds
