OK .. had another play ... and out of box FW still on the R8 - it appears that the first 4 channels of my 9x / 9xr are ignored and if I set my AETR and aux's in the 5 and up slots on the 9xr - then it follows AETR ...

If I set any function in the first 4 ch slots - then I lose others .. there seems to be some conflict .. but where or why ??

I assume that should the FW be flashed to Midelic's ... maybe this cures it ?? But so far - I have managed to set up 5 ch's on the R8 that suit general use.

Ahh that's where I got confused - I was thinking R8 was the MotiveRC one!
The Jumper R8 I flashed to Midelic's firmware before I did anything else as I couldn't bind it to my Taranis as it is an EU LBT model and the R8 stock firmware isn't so I couldn't bind it.

The MotiveRC ones seem to work well right off the bat but hopefully I can get a full test done at the weekend as the weather is looking good so far...

?? The R8 I am talking about IS the Motive RC one ... I have changed the thread title to show that as well.

I have read that the Jumper Rx is unreliable on range .. so have not bought that.

The main point I have discovered is that the 4ch and Motive RC Rx's only bind when Telemetry switch is enabled on the TX module ... regardless f whether you want to use Telemetry or not.

I even after binding switched OFF the Telemetry mode of the DJT module ... communication broke and RX no longer linked to TX ... flicked switch back to Telemetry and RX bounced back to life.

Yep, sounds pretty normal as the telemetry is D8(2) mode and non-telemetry is the original D8 mode as used by the V series receivers.
To get a confirmed bind the transmitter needs to be in telemetry mode due to it not being the genuine FrSky firmware but a variant of (I assume) Midelic's original D8 clone firmware.
I don't understand the exact differences between the two modes on a Tx level but I do know they do have a different bind fingerprint which is why they lose bind when you switch off the telemetry on the DJT.

Have my sights set on Sunday for some test flights - have just finished installing a MotiveRC Rx in my newly finished F-22 v2 so that will be a reasonable test for it I think!

Yes I know that FrSky went from V format to D ... the D standing for DOUBLE or DUAL ... dual for the two way comms.
