I use a monitor when I fly my FPV quads because I wear glasses and don't want to deal with goggle just yet. A good while ago I 3D printed a little bracket which did the job (kinda) but I always wanted to make something a little more substantial when I had time.

I designed the mount with clamps to mold around the carrying bar of my transmitter (Taranis Q X7) and with a slide to connect to the monitor. The clamps are held together with 8mm M3 bolts and use 3D printed threads so no nuts required. Due to some simple planning on paper beforehand the modeling process was very quick and easy. I have been using this mount for the past couple months, and it has turned out quite sturdy; I'm very pleased with it.

I've seen a little module for getting the FPV feed on your phone, which I might give a go at some point. I like the goggles, but if I need to switch to LOS I have to take one hand off the controls and also re-build my spatial awareness. There's been occasions where I haven't had time to do that.

Not sure how I'd mount my phone, though.

Yeah, I've heard those can have a little more lag than dedicated goggles/monitor but I imagine it would still be quite useful. I find the transmitter mount to be a very convenient location and if you have access to a 3D printer I bet there's some sort of smartphone mount somewhere.

I suppose I could get some CAD software, have a go at designing my own and geting a 3D Printing service to make it. Used to use Autodesk Maya a lot, so I'm sure I could learn fast. 🙂
