Wow! That design looks awesome. It would definitely look awesome in the air.
Tilting front rotors would make it similar to the Flitetest Avatar gunship, it would be very cool but more difficult to achieve as you would need to get the correct controller board and flash it. That would also mean that the third tail rotor would not be required. The problem with this design is that it is difficult to fly.
A tri-rotor with fixed front rotors and a moveable tail rotor would offer you the best manoeuvrability and flight dynamics.
IMHO, the best and simplest way to start might be the second option. It may not fly exactly like the Orca in the game flew but it would still look awesome.
You can use stock standard parts and flight principles to start with.
You can always re-configure it later with more complex controller boards.

I am sticking with plain tricopter setup for two reasons:
One: I am on a budget that is really low
Two: I am way too lazy to flash a board to do this.
anyway, I have worked a little more on the design. Its been horrible weather for the past three weeks, too much wind here to do anything. I can't even take my RC Heli up because it hates wind and its battery had a conniption.... it wont stay in the air for more than 5 seconds before i get the lovely show of it bouncing around the grass..........
Anyway:
Here is a pic of what i have don so far. I haven't slept in a while so I'm going to take a nap before i do much else

Looks awesome James. Keep at it. I'm really keen to see this one completed and flying.

Glad you decided to go with the tri-copter. It just makes more sense.

Sorry I have been busy with school work and many other issues.
I don't have any picture for you but i have worked some more on the design... I am on my Craig right now (see pointless thread in test section for more info on that) so i can't bring up the photos i have. When i get five minutes to sit down and fire up my computer without worrying about who has the notes of the huge lab due the next day, i will try to post the pics for ya. Thanks for the support

Well hello everyone.
Yes I know this is way overdue but my savefile for the project is corrupt. I have been loaded donw with school work and i finally checked it today. Well sorry but i have to start over again.
This time i plan to draw the plans so i can work on them more often instead of when im near a computer. I have scheduled a visit to hobbyworkshops later this month so ill finally get the parts i need for my crash rig. I dont call it a test rig anymore thanks to my friends "test rig".
Hopefully it won't like my friends did. He has used the wrong type of battery and it started smoking in the air and then went puff. Was fun to watch but still was fun for him to clean up.
Anyway I will not scrap this project.

Edit: I should say this,
I have done every possible way to recover my corrupt file but unfortunately i was an idiot and never saved backups. I do alot of programming in dos and i have had this happen before. moral ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS.

I hope the Orca works, i myself dream (well not literately i'm not that big a geek ) of building a pelican from the halo series. One day but like you due to tight budgets and school its not going to happen any time soon. Wish you luck.
"oh my gosh it works! look at that its flying, wow thats",(BAM!)..."never mind."
