I’ve had this Blade 200qx for quite a while and it is fun enough to fly and is categorized as more of a sport drone than a racing drown.

I put together some components to try and make it more of a racer with MicroHeli’s carbon fiber frame, upgraded Tri-Blade props, larger capacity battery and 3-IN-1 micro-FPV camera system.

The only thing left to do is mount the camera and test the FPV system.

Here’s what I started with, the stock 200qx.

This is the MicroHeli kit.

It comes with carbon fiber folding frame, high capacity battery, fiberglass canopy and all the nuts and bolts to put it together.

The modification from the stock Blade 200qx to the MicroHeli is an easy one even though there are no written instructions, just 2-sheets of 4 front and back pictures showing parts and component locations.

Essentially you bolt up the carbon fiber frame and then transfer the guts from the solid plastic frame to the MicroHeli frame.

The frame has stand-offs in the center and thumb screws on each leg that you can loosen up if you want to fold up the legs for transport.

This quad is small enough that I doubt I will use this feature.

The four, shorter flat top stand-offs support the flight controller, then above that the taller stand-offs support the 4 in 1 ESC, power distribution board.

There are two Velcro straps (the red you see under the top board) that hold the battery on the bottom. These came with the kit Pre-attached to the center body of the frame.

Here is the carbon fiber frame with the flight controller and 4-1 ESC board installed.

Still need to run the lights into the frames light sockets and strap down some of this loose motor wiring.

Here are the two frames side by side in transition.

The older plastic Blade 200qx frame had been previously skinned from the stock plain vanilla white frame.

This is the camera that is to be mounted and tested later today.

The 3-IN-1 micro camera is very small and weighs about 2.8g and uses a 1S battery or can run off the quads battery.

The camera comes with an integrated 5.8ghz, 48 channel Transmitter and antenna.

Here is the finished conversion minus the FPV camera and mount. Hopefully we can get that mounted and tested later today.

I did their kit for my 350QX a few years ago, nice kit and really strong compared to the plastic crap.

Wildthing,

Do you have any pics of your conversion?

I would like to see that!

This little 200 scale quad flys very aggressively and is 3-D capable in the right hands BUT not mine.

It uses 3 different “Blade” stock props:
Stock, sport and 3-D for inverted flying.

These new Xtreme Tri-Blade props for the 200qx are different from all three of those and I don’t know how well they will perform.

When I get the camera mounted, up and running I will give it a spin.

The 200qx has been around for quite awhile now and is getting fairly long in the tooth. This was part of the reason I used the MicroHeli upgrade kit.

The 200qx a few years ago was about $250 which I thought was quite high but lately I have seen a few on eBay new for about $100 bucks and some used for about $50.

The 200qx can get away from you pretty quick in some of its more advanced modes so I would not recommend this as a 1st quad.

This is for intermediate and advance flyers because after all it can fly “FULLY INVERTED”

The Blade 200QX has 6 different flight modes:

    • Stability Low Angle” (indicated by solid green LED) is the easiest with a minimum bank angle.
    • Stability High Angle” (indicated by solid blue LED) has a much higher bank angle, but still auto levels for you.
    • Agility Mode” (indicated by solid red LED) does not auto level, so you must keep the copter level manually.

After a firmware upgrade you get 3 more modes explained below:

Stability (Bailout) (I wish this worked better )

The Stability (Bailout) Mode is similar to Stability Mode for upright flight. In this mode the throttle is offset to run only from 51% to 100%; this throttle curve helps prevent a pilot from accidentally flying into the ground when flipping out of inverted flight and back to an upright position.

3D Stagility™

3D Stagility Mode features a self-leveling characteristic that's active when the control sticks are released. Whether you're flying inverted or upright, the 200 QX will self-level so you can learn inverted flight with mild assistance. When flying in this mode, 0-50% throttle is reversed thrust and 51%-100 is positive thrust.

3D Agility

3D Agility Mode was designed for experienced pilots, anyone who has mastered inverted flight in all orientations and advanced pilots looking for a full 3D flying experience with no self-leveling. When flying in this mode, 0-50% throttle is reversed thrust; 51%-100 is positive thrust.

One of the features of this kit that I really liked was the fiberglass canopy.

If you notice on the fiber frame there three “ball” posts that the canopy snaps on to through its rubber grommets.

This arrangement makes it very easy to remove so you can rapidly get at the guts if need be.

Micro FPV camera mounted.

Time to test it with goggles.

Canapoy pops off for easy access to connect 1S battery to the camera.

1S Battery is velcroed underneath the canopy on top of 4 in 1 ESC flightdeck.

It works but I think I am seeing to much Prop and the quad itself.

I’ll fly it and see what it looks like.

Here is a view through the FPV goggles.
