I found an article on an Electric plan that MIT made which uses a charged wing to force airflow and thrust.

The premise is that the charged wing pulls the plane forward via "Ionic wind". The electrodes charge nitrogen particles in the atmosphere creating positive ions. The ions collide with neutral air particles, pushing the air behind the plane and generating thrust to drive the plane forward.

    It's an interesting concept.

Very cool. (Too bad they frown on lipo batteries on planes...) Kidding aside, awesome concept that could be viable.

That's pretty cool, but 40000 volts to the front electrodes? I wouldn't want to get in the way of that... :D

Doubles as a law enforcement long range taser too.

  5. For extra boost they need a lightening rod to pick up that little extra fuel ;)
