X-31 EasyBuild Build Instructions
1) Make sure you have all the parts cut out and ready to assemble. | _____________ |
2) Find the wings and forward fuselage pieces, then glue them together. | _____________ |
3) Find your 3mm carbon rod and cut it to length, about 16 inches. | _____________ |
4) Cut and carve a channel in your wings to embed the 3mm carbon spar into. | _____________ |
Here is a short video outlining the process used to install the carbon rod. | _____________ |
5) Find your control surfaces. Bevel them and use hinge tape to install them onto your airplane | _____________ |
Here is a short video that outlines how to make a control surface. | _____________ |
6) Find the large vertical fuselage piece and glue it to your wigns as shown. | _____________ |
7) Find the rear fuselage piece and glue it into place as shown. | _____________ |
8) Find the forward horizontal fuselage piece and glue it into place as shown. | _____________ |
9) Glue your control horns and motor mount into place as shown. You can download a template for our control horns and motor mount here | _____________ |
10) Get some piano wire or control rods and Z bend them as shown, they should be just under 6 inches long. | _____________ |
11) Get your radio equipment and your Electronic speed control and hook everything up. Now is the time to center the servo arms and set the delta mixing in your radio. Keep the reciever and servos powered up and centered while you complete the next step. | _____________ |
12) Tape your control surfaces level and install the Z bended wires into the control horns on the control surfaces. Then, install the other side of the z-bended wires into the control horns of your servos. Finally, with the control surfaces leveled and the servos centered and powered up, glue down your servos with hot glue. Do not power down the radio or reciever until the glue on your servos dries. Once they dry you can run one of the servo wires through the foam in the center and do the initial placement for your reciever and ESC. | _____________ |
13) Use screws to install your Microjet V2 or Microjet V3. With your radio and reciever powered up, make sure the propeller is spinning in the correct direction, then tape down your reciever and ESC to prevent them from falling back into the prop wash. | _____________ |
As a couple final notes, you want the control throws to be pretty high to give yourself plenty of control authority. Expos at 50% are a good idea to keep things smooth. Also, make sure you strap down all your wires real good, putting them right infront of the prop wash can be dangerous if you don't. As far as power systems go, I have tested (succesfully) and found, with the microjet motor you can get a floaty, easy to fly, relatively slow plane with a 1000 mah 2-cell. If you want it to go faster with better speed and a more scale handling, put a 1500 mah 3-cell on it.

Woohoo... been waiting for Scott to get this one done.
At least it is FREE, so we'll see how many people try this one out.
BTW, great job Scott!
